Utah Senators Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch have called on the federal government to repay Utah for keeping national parks open during the federal government shutdown. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the National Park Access Act, introduced Tuesday, asks the federal government to reimburse six states that fronted the cost of reopening national parks last year, Utah included. Hatch and Lee are co-sponsoring the bill with Sens. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Mark Udall of Colorado. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the Department of the Interior recently pledged support to reimburse states who reopened national parks during the shutdown.
