A Colorado man was arrested Monday after leading police on a high speed chase through Sevier County. The Richfield Reaper reports that the chase began when Richfield City Police Officer Jim Brown attempted to pull over a white SUV driven by 41-year-old Jason Brightwell from Colorado Springs, Colorado, for a traffic violation on 300 North near Main Street. Brightwell sped away from Brown and turned south on College Avenue and then onto northbound I-15. Speeds exceeded 80 mph and portions of I-70 were shut down. Officers attempted to spike the vehicles tires. The first attempt failed but three tires were flattened on the second attempt. Brightwell continued to drive down the interstate before exciting and crashing through two fences in Vermillion. After crashing, Brightwell attempted to run but was taken into custody. Police were forced to use a taser on Brightwell when he resisted handcuffs. He was booked into Sevier County Jail and is facing charges of evading police, resisting arrests and possession of marijuana.
