An online preschool program called UPSTART i3 will be implemented in the Sevier School District. Superintendent Cade Douglas said “The term i3 means federal and state funds pay for the online program. UPSTART will enhance our District’s preschools by helping to prepare children for kindergarten and by striving to close the achievement gap for high-need students.”
A liaison of UPSTART will be hired in Sevier School District and funded by the state to expand this home-based learning by introducing more children to the online program. Students will spend at least 15 minutes daily with the program. Douglas said parents who can’t afford a computer or access to the internet for their children would be loaned these services free of charge while enrolled in the program.
