(Provo, UT) — A bill aimed at regulating e-cigarettes is awaiting action in the state House and if approved would become the first of its kind in America. The bill aims to put e-cigarettes under restrictions similar to tobacco, including prohibiting sales to people under 19. Supporters say the regulations will protect children, who are likely to move from electronic smoking to conventional cigarettes later in life. Kids are believed to be targets of the nicotine dispensers, which are often candy-flavored. Rates of e-cigarette use in Utah have tripled since 2011.
