35-year-old Brandie McClain of Manti was sentenced on Feb. 5 to 1-15 years in the Utah State Prison on charges filed after a series of events occurred that ended with the death of 20-year-old Jeremy Palmer of Sterling. Palmer was reportedly dumped in a friend’s driveway after McClain and some friends didn’t seek medical help after Palmer overdosed on drugs. According to the Deseret News, Palmer and his friends drove to West Jordan Aug. 26 where he took 300 mg of morphine and inhaled canned air. While driving home near Thistle, he became incoherent. His friends stopped next to a stream and poured cold water on him. They then kept driving south, passing by Sanpete Valley Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. The Desert News states that Palmer was later put in a bathtub filled with ice; an ambulance was never called. The friends allegedly dumped Jeremy’s body in the driveway of an acquaintance at 6 a.m. the next day.

Jeremy’s father, Ryan Palmer, told the Desert News that his son’s friends “didn’t want to be investigated. They didn’t want to go to jail. they didn’t want problems, so they moved the crime scene from the home of Ms. McClain’s where it all happened and dumped him in the driveway.” McClain has plead guilty to drug possession, a second-degree felony, as well as child endangerment and obstructing justice, both third-degree felonies.
