(Salt Lake City, UT) — Officials say more than a dozen LGBT activists are facing possible charges following a protest for gay rights at the state Capitol. Police arrested 13 demonstrators yesterday on charges of disorderly conduct for allegedly blocking access to a legislative committee hearing. The demonstrators were holding a sit-in at the Capitol to protest the lack of action on SB100, which would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Legislative leaders tabled the controversial measure after a federal court struck down a Utah law prohibiting same sex marriage.
