Utah Commissioner of Agriculture and Food, Leonard Blackham of Moroni, has announced his retirement in early January 2014. Blackham has had a noteworthy 25-year public service career, including his appointment as Commissioner in 2005 after serving for 12 years in the Utah State Senate and four years as a Sanpete County Commissioner.

In the past nine years, Commissioner Blackham has initiated various programs, including the Grazing Improvement Program, Invasive Species Program, and the eradication of the highly destructive Japanese beetle in Utah County. Most recently, he was asked by Governor Herbert to chair the Catastrophic Wildfire Reduction Steering Committee.

Blackham says he has been fortunate to work with some of the most dedicated farmers and ranchers in the state.
