Deer Transplant Proposal May Relocate Hundreds of Deer

Utah wildlife officials want to relocate hundreds of deer in order to manage population levels and protect resources. Officials say deer would only be moved from places where the population has “drastically” exceeded goals and habitats are being damaged. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is holding public meetings throughout this month to explain the proposal. Wildlife officials say deer would likely be removed from Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake and the city of Bountiful. Officials say both spots have too many deer. DWR game coordinator Justin Shannon told The Salt Lake Tribune that it’s too soon to say whether a similar transplant of mule deer in January was successful.
