Jon Huntsman Sr. has denied a claim in a new book that he was the source of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s assertion last year that Mitt Romney had not paid taxes in a decade. According to the book “Double Down” by journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, Reid told President Barack Obama’s team during the presidential election that the source for the claim was Huntsman. Huntsman son, Jon Huntsman Jr., was one of Romney’s primary opponents for the 2012 GOP nomination. But the elder Huntsman told the Salt Lake Tribune that the allegation is completely false and the book is “supermarket tabloid trash.” He also told KTVX-TV in Salt Lake City that he has “never known anything” about Romney’s tax returns and he never talked to Harry Reid about them.
