An Ohio woman died Thursday after falling off a cliff near the Subway at Zion National Park. 47-year-old Cheri Hass was leading a group of four in canyoneering through the Subway on Thursday afternoon when she took a wrong turn on the 2.5-mile approach. Hass slipped on some sand-covered slickrock and fell off a cliff, dropping more than 100 feet. She died on impact.
The woman’s boyfriend, who was part of her canyoneering group, rappelled to the bottom of the cliff to find her before members of the group alerted park officials about 3 p.m. This is the first death inside of Zion National Park this year.
