Crews are working to close containment lines and douse flare-ups within a number of small wildfires in Utah ahead of an extended period of thunderstorms and lightning strikes. The lightning caused Hell’s Kitchen Fire, which had burned about 15 acres 8 miles north of Fayett, near Yuba Lake, was 0% contained Wednesday. The area is both remote and rugged with no structures at risk.
Another lightning blaze, the Sinbad Fire 30 miles east of Moab, remained at 220 acres as crews worked to complete containment. The newest blaze is the Trail Wildfire, which has only burned about 3 acres in the Pine Valley Wilderness of the Dixie National Forest, but has the potential for explosive growth due to tinder-dry conditions, gusty winds and continued hot weather.
