SALT LAKE CITY (AP)-As confirmed by KUTV-Channel 2 News anchor Shauna Lake via her Twitter account, as well as other sources, Frances Monson, the wife of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints prophet Thomas S. Monson, passed away Friday.

Reportedly, Monson died at a Salt Lake City hospital at roughly 6:35 a.m. MDT from causes related to her age, the press release stated.

Heidi S. Swinton, President Monson’s biographer, said Frances was always committed to supporting and strengthening the family and being a companion to her husband.

Born October 27, 1927 as Frances Beverly Johnson, she was the youngest and only daughter in a family of five and grew up in the Great Depression era, where she learned the value of saving money.

She served dutifully for years in both the Primary and Relief Society, the release states as well as in the Canadian Mission alongside her husband, who was the mission president in the Toronto-based mission from 1959 to 1962.
