UHSAA Clarifies Offseason Sports Regulations

The Utah High School Activities Association’s Executive Committee has proposed new regulations regarding when high school sports teams can meet and practice during the offseason. Current rules state that teams have twelve weeks of dead time in which they are not supposed to meet to practice or participate in fundraising. But many have found the rules confusing because players are allowed to get together for offseason conditioning or workouts, but without the supervision of coaches. The new proposal would institute four weeks of sports specific moratorium, in which teams cannot meet, practice, compete, or travel. It also would forbid the use of school facilities, including weight rooms, outside of the school day.
