Gunnison City Police say the death of 62-year-old Rolando Cardona-Gueton, an inmate at Central Utah Correctional Facility, appears to be a homicide. Gunnison Police Chief Trent Halliday said a pending medical examiner’s report will be required to rule out suicide, but says they don’t believe it was suicide. Halliday indicated that some of Cardona-Gueton’s injuries and evidence at the scene implied the inmate did not take his own life. Cardona-Gueton was found dead Saturday morning in his cell. His sentence began in January 2011 and no parole date had been scheduled at the time of his death.
