Richfield Man Involved in Nevada Shootout

A man wounded in a shootout that also left a veteran police officer injured in Mesquite, Nevada has been identified as 40-year-old Daniel Wesley Runyon of Richfield. Runyon remains hospitalized at University Medical Center in Las Vegas pending an initial court appearance on charges including assault with a weapon on a police officer, methamphetamine trafficking, conspiracy and being a felon in possession of a firearm. A woman who police say was with Runyon when he fired at least one shot last Thursday morning was identified as 48-year-old Tina Cornell of St. George. Cornell wasn’t injured but was arrested pending a court appearance on charges of methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia. Runyon is accused of firing a shot a 43-year-old Officer Craig Empey and hitting him in the leg. Empey is the first Mesquite police officer ever wounded on duty.
