Millions Collected From Those Who Started Fires

Utah is tops in the nation for collecting damages against those who start wildfires. In nearly 20 years, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Utah has taken in almost 17-million dollars from people, corporations and organizations. But there is only a small amount of fires where blame can be proven and firefighting costs are only recovered in a small fraction of those fires.
