(RICHFIELD) – The Sevier County Commissioners met in their monthly session today to consider several issues concerning the building of a proposed power plant near Sigurd. County Attorney, Dale Eyre, commented that he wrote a letter to the Department of Air Quality (DAQ) concerning the regulation of the PM-2.5 air pollutant. He said that he received a response from the DAQ that the county has no authority to regulate it and as a result, the County Commissioners voted to delete the measure from the Conditional Use Permit. Eyre also stated that 13 proposed conditions will be printed up and discussed at the August commission meeting. Other issues discussed concerned water rights and a change of use permit prior to construction of the power plant. Sevier Power Company representatives were also in attendance and said they have two sites selected within the county boundaries for the purpose of storing ash from the plant. The next Commission meeting will be a workshop session to be held August 22 at 2pm at the County Chambers for the purpose of discussing financial conditions.
