Twins Steamroll Texas @ Metrodome

MINNEAPOLIS-Joe Mauer and 2008 Home Run Derby champion Justin Morneau each hit home runs and amassed eight RBI collectively as the Minnesota Twins shellacked the Texas Rangers, 14-2 Saturday at the Metrodome. While the Rangers have been engaged in numerous shootouts this season, their opponent’s firepower exceeded theirs for a change as Minnesota netted 16 hits in the convincing win. Delmon Young and Brian Buscher also added home runs for the Twins who put the game on ice with a six run 6th Inning. Additionally, Minnesota improved to 23-7 since mid-June and now boasts a record of 55-42, while Texas fell to 50-48 with the loss. In other MLB action Saturday, the New York Yankees edged Oakland, 4-3 in 12 innings, the Los Angeles Angels doubled up Boston, 4-2, Cleveland surged past Seattle, 9-6, St. Louis held off San Diego, 6-5, Florida gashed Philadelphia, 9-5, Milwaukee stymied San Francisco, 8-5, Tampa Bay bested Toronto, 6-4, Washington smoked Atlanta, 8-2, Baltimore outgunned Detroit, 11-10 in 10 innings, Kansas City embarrassed the Chicago White Sox, 9-1, Houston humbled the Chicago Cubs, 4-1, Cincinnati trounced the New York Mets, 7-2, Colorado blasted Pittsburgh, 7-1, and Arizona snuck past the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-2.
