(FILLMORE) – The Utah BLM Fillmore Field office is advising livestockmen to refrain from dropping off aged horses on BLM land. Wild Horse Specialist, Eric Reid, said the practice of abandoning domestic horses to roam with wild horses is a form of animal cruelty. Reid said they received a call from a Millard County resident on June 27, that there was a wild horse near the gravel pit on Old Highway 6 and 50 about 30 miles west of Delta, that appeared to be in poor condition. The BLM picked up the horse and discovered it was domestic and nursed it back to better health. The Millard County Sheriff’s Office along with the BLM are warning horse owners that dropping off livestock on BLM land is illegal and owners could face trespassing fines and grazing fees. They also ask if anyone sees this activity, to call the Sheriff’s Office.
