Manti girl selected as Miss Utah

(SALT LAKE CITY) – The Beehive State has a new Miss Utah. At the pageant Saturday night in the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City, judges selected 18-year old, Kayla Barclay of Manti as the new Miss Utah. Kayla reigned as Miss Sanpete and beat out 49 other contestants from across the state and will reign as the new Miss Utah for the coming year and then compete for Miss America in January. Her platform is Internet Safety, in particular, educating young people on how to avoid the dangers on the Internet. Kayla was crowned by outgoing Miss Utah, Jill Stevens, who had previously served with the Utah National Guard in Afghanistan. First runner-up was Whitney Merrifield, Miss Pleasant Grove along with second attendant, Jennifer Gulbrandsen, Miss Wasatch Front; Christina Lowe, Miss Utah Valley University, was third runner-up and Tayler Williams, Miss Bear River Valley, was named as fourth runner-up. Kayla has studied at BYU and Snow College and will resume her studies in psychology and business after taking next year off from college while she serves as Miss Utah. She is the daughter of Mike and Susan Barclay of Manti.
