Howard's Homers Lead Phils Past Cards

PHILADELPHIA-Ryan Howard posted two home runs along with three RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies dismantled the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-1 Thursday at Citizens Bank Park. Howard, who was batting a paltry .160 in May, has caught fire in the midst of a 13-game hitting streak. Since the start of his streak, the Philadelphia star has netted eight home runs and 18 RBI. Additionally, Jamie Moyer won his eighth game of the season on the mound for the Phillies, which was his first since June 12. Yadier Molina had a fourth inning RBI single for the Cardinals to provide all of the St. Louis offense. In other MLB action Thursday, Minnesota surged past Detroit, 7-6 in 11 innings, the New York Mets scorched San Francisco, 7-3, Milwaukee decimated Colorado, 11-1, Cincinnati smoked the Chicago Cubs, 12-7, Oakland edged Seattle, 3-2 in 11 innings, Cleveland embarrassed Tampa Bay, 13-2, Toronto humbled Baltimore, 6-5, Arizona gashed Washington, 7-5 in 11 innings, the Los Angeles Angels outgunned Texas, 11-10, Kansas City smacked the Chicago White Sox, 4-1, and Florida outlasted the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-4 in 11 innings. In interleague action, Pittsburgh doubled up the New York Yankees, 4-2.
