(WASHINGTON D.C.) – The Senate Appropriations Committee has granted Sen. Bob Bennett’s request for over $100-million to fund Utah transit and economic development projects. Nearly $82-million is designated to begin preliminary design and environmental work to extend the FrontRunner commuter rail lines, which currently runs from Salt Lake City to Weber County and north to Brigham City. Eventually, the line will run from Payson to Brigham City. The bill also includes $10-million to begin construction to extend Mid-Jordan Light Rail, ten miles west from the 6400 South Trax station through Murray, Midvale, West Jordan and ending in South Jordan. In addition to the $100-million for commuter and light rail, Bennett has also secured over $108-million for the project. $2-million is also earmarked for expansion of a 15-mile stretch of highway on US-191 between Moab and Crescent Junction. The Central Utah Pioneer Project will also get $200,000 and the Provo Downtown Parking Structure will receive $500,000 along with the San Juan Community Facility to get $400,000.
