(HATCH) – Garkane Energy and its member-consumers are holding a public rate hearing this month in Hatch. Staff Assistant, Marcus Lewis, said the purpose of the hearing to inform customers of a rate increase due to rising costs of power. Lewis said that Garkane Energy hasn’t raised its rates since 1992 and has been able to hold rates to a minimum by managing costs and implementing a number of cost-saving measures. He said the company has also passed on savings in the form of Capital Credits due to rebates from their wholesale provider, Deseret Power. According to Garkane Energy, the rate increase will raise revenues about eight per cent and will increase a typical residential bill by about $3.37 a month. The public rate hearing will be held at Garkane Energy’s Hatch business office on July 28 at 1pm.
