MILWAUKEE-CC Sabathia surrendered only two runs and five hits in six innings of work in his National League debut as the Milwaukee Brewers bested the Colorado Rockies, 7-3 Tuesday at Miller Park. Ryan Braun started things off with his 22nd homer of the season, a three-run shot in the first inning to give Milwaukee an early 3-0 lead. Colorado battled back to within 4-3 in the sixth inning as Yorvit Torrealba hit a two-run double. Nevertheless, the Brewers sprinted to the finish as Bill Hall’s two-run single in the seventh made Sabathia’s first performance as a Brewer successful. Milwaukee improved to 50-40 on the season, while the Rockies fell to 38-53. In other MLB action Tuesday, Boston snuck past Minnesota, 6-5, Detroit pounded Cleveland, 9-2, the New York Yankees blanked Tampa Bay, 5-0, St. Louis stonewalled Philadelphia, 2-0, Toronto edged Baltimore, 7-6, Arizona tripped up Washington, 2-0, the New York Mets blasted San Francisco, 7-0, Texas humbled the Los Angeles Angels, 3-2, the Chicago Cubs waxed Cincinnati, 7-3, the Chicago White Sox surged past Kansas City, 8-7 in 13 innings, Oakland ripped Seattle, 2-0, San Diego shellacked Florida, 10-1, and Atlanta bludgeoned the Los Angeles Dodgers, 9-3.
