PHOENIX-Jake Peavy threw seven shutout innings in amassing his sixth win of the season as the San Diego Padres humbled the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-2 Saturday at Chase Field. Additionally, Scott Hairston had a pair of home runs for the Padres, while Adrian Gonzalez added another for San Diego. Stephen Drew came through for the Diamondbacks with a ninth-inning home run, but Trevor Hoffman recovered swiftly enough to earn his 16th save of the season for the Padres. The win improved San Diego to 35-53 on the season, while Arizona dropped to 43-45 with the defeat. In other MLB action Saturday, the New York Yankees doubled up Boston, 2-1, St. Louis edged the Chicago Cubs, 5-4, Houston torched Atlanta, 6-1, Texas gashed Baltimore, 5-3, the Chicago White Sox hammered Oakland, 6-1, Milwaukee snuck past Pittsburgh, 2-1, the New York Mets bludgeoned Philadelphia, 9-4, Minnesota overpowered Cleveland, 9-6, Cincinnati stymied Washington, 3-2, Tampa Bay blanked Kansas City, 3-0, Colorado smacked Florida, 12-6, Toronto waxed the Los Angeles Angels, 7-5, San Francisco blew past the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-2, and Seattle squeaked past Detroit, 3-2.
