Dodgers Best Astros in 11 @ Houston

HOUSTON-Jeff Kent hit a solo homer in the 11th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Houston Astros, 7-6 Tuesday at Minute Maid Park. Russell Martin added a two-run shot for Los Angeles which amassed their highest run total since June 19. After Martin’s sixth inning RBI single, the Dodgers opened up a 6-1 lead, but shortly thereafter Houston caught fire. In the bottom of the sixth, Ty Wigginton belted a three-run homer, while Carlos Lee chipped in with a two-run double in the seventh to deadlock things at 6-6. The game was not without incident as Astros catcher Humberto Quintero was inadvertently smacked in the head by the bat of the Dodgers’ Luis Maza, when he followed through with his swing on a flyout. The Astros reported that Quintero suffered a concussion, but tests were negative. The team reported that Quintero will be placed on 15-day injured reserve. The win improved Los Angeles to 39-44, while Houston dropped to 40-44 in defeat. In other MLB action Tuesday, Philadelphia smacked Atlanta, 8-3, Baltimore handled Kansas City, 7-5, Texas edged the New York Yankees, 3-2, Pittsburgh snuck past Cincinnati, 6-5 in 11 innings, Washington overpowered Florida, 9-6, Tampa Bay humbled Boston, 3-1, Minnesota bested Detroit, 6-4, the Chicago White Sox surged past Cleveland, 3-2 in 10 innings, the New York Mets gashed St. Louis, 7-4, Colorado blanked San Diego, 4-0, Milwaukee outgunned Arizona, 8-6, the Los Angeles Angels stymied Oakland, 5-3, San Francisco shocked the Chicago Cubs, 2-1 and Seattle squeaked past Toronto, 7-6.
