Utah Baseball Hosts Washington State

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah baseball team hosts Washington State this week for a three-game Pac-12 series beginning on Thursday, April 27.

Games continue on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29. All three games begin at 11:30 a.m. MT.

Utah continues its season-long player card promotion with Lars Lofgren on Thursday, Hunter Simmons on Friday and Josh Lapiana on Saturday. Saturday is ‘Halfway to Halloween’ and kids are encouraged to wear costumes and get candy on the concourse.

Utah (18-17, 8-10 Pac-12) has won six of its last seven games, including sweeping then-seventh-ranked Arizona last weekend while winning two of three from California the previous weekend.
Utah ranks second in the Pac-12 with a .298 batting average. The Utes are second in the league in runs scored (235), RBI (210) and on-base percentage (.390) while ranking third in slugging percentage (.414), hits (372) and walks (159, tied). The Utes are fourth in total bases (516).

The Utes rank sixth in the Pac-12 in earned run average (3.81). Utah is tied for fourth in the conference in fewest earned runs allowed (132). Utah leads the league in fewest home runs allowed (12) and pickoffs (nine, tied).

Dallas Carroll ranks second in the Pac-12 in batting average (.397), slugging percentage (.631) and on-base percentage (.479). He is third in the league in hits per game (1.60) and doubles (14). DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., ranks second in the league in hits (57) and hits per game (1.63).
Jayson Rose is eighth in the Pac-12 with 51 strikeouts.

Washington State is 18-20 overall, 4-11 in the Pac-12. The Cougars recently took two of three from Washington in their last league outing for their first Pac-12 series win of the season.
