ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP)-Friday, the Pine View Invitational, one of the more prestigious track and field meets in Utah commenced Day 1 of competition with several strong showings from elite athletes in the Beehive State.

In the girls’ 1600-meter run, Cedar’s Mic Webster took the title in a time of 5:09.31 giving the Lady Reds some key points as they are currently in fourth in the standings with 15 points. The Timpanogos Timberwolves are the current girls’ leaders with 26 points. Richfield’s girls are tied for sixth place with Woods Cross with both the Richfield and Woods Cross Wildcats having 9 points thus far.

The Timpanogos girls’ 4 x 800 (medley) relay team also won a title, posting a time of 9:54.09 in the event.

Other individual winners for the girls after one day of competition include Desert Hills’ Elly Williams with a toss of 107-06.75 feet in the discus and Jaslyn Gardner of Enterprise who had a leap of 16-09.50 feet in the long jump.

For the boys, Hurricane is in first place after five events with 32 points while Panguitch is in seventh place with 12 points.

In individual events, the boys’ 1600-meter run champion at the meet is Timpanogos’ Joe Benson who won in a time of 4:21.91.

The Orem Tigers were the boys’ champions in the 4 x 800 relay, winning in a time of 8:09.10.

Seth Dabb of Canyon View was the champion in the boys’ high jump, posting a leap of 6 feet 4 inches with Panguitch star Trey Barney winning the boys’ crown in the javelin, posting a toss of 176-05.50 feet.

Finally, in the boys’ shot put, Park City’s Elijah Alford had a toss of 50-01 feet to win the title in that event.
