Desmond Bane capped his 16-point performance by hitting three free throws with 2.5 seconds left to cap the Horned Frogs’ game-ending, 9-2 run. Kenrich Williams had 13 points, Alex Robinson had 13 and Brandon Parrish provided 12 for TCU.

UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Bears have released quarterback Jay Cutler after eight unfulfilling seasons that included just one postseason appearance. The Bears went 3-13 while Cutler missed 11 games due to thumb and shoulder injuries. Also in the NFL today, the Broncos traded quarterback Brock Osweiler (AHS’-wy-lur) to the Browns, the Buccaneers worked out a three-year deal with wide receiver DeSean Jackson, and wideout Alshon Jeffery accepted a one-year pact with the Eagles.

UNDATED (AP) — The Washington Redskins have fired general manager Scot McCloughan after two seasons at the helm. Club president Bruce Allen announced the firing and said the team will have no further comment on McCloughan’s departure. McCloughan did not attend the NFL Combine this month, with a spokesman only saying his absence was due to family matters.

UNDATED (AP) — The NBA has fined New Orleans Pelicans big man DeMarcus Cousins $50,000 for “directing inappropriate language” toward fans. The incidents occurred during the Pelicans’ victory over the Lakers in Los Angeles on Sunday and at the end of New Orleans’ loss to the Jazz in Utah the next night. The league also fined Jared Dudley of the Suns and Brandon Jennings of the Wizards $35,000 apiece for their roles in an altercation during a game Tuesday night in Phoenix.

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — Jim Herman was the clubhouse leader when the first round of the PGA’s Valspar Championship was suspended by darkness at Palm Harbor, Fla. Herman missed the course record by one stroke, firing an 8-under 62 that leaves him two shots ahead of British Open champion Henrik Stenson and Russell Henley. Herman has only one top 10 finish since his victory in Houston last year and has slipped to No. 89 in the world.
