Batemon leads Loyola Marymount to 76-69 upset over BYU

LOS ANGELES (AP) — James Batemon poured in 28 points and added four rebounds, four assists and three steals and Loyola Marymount stunned BYU 76-69 on Thursday night.

Eli Scott, a freshman, totaled 19 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double and first in West Coast Conference play for the Lions (7-15, 2-9). Zafir Williams added 12 points off the bench on 5-of-6 shooting. LMU beat BYU (18-6, 7-4) for only the fifth time in 19 tries and lost at BYU 82-67 last month.

Elijah Bryant finished with 24 points and five assists for the Cougars, who shot just 5 of 24 from 3-point range (21 percent). Yoeli Childs notched 15 points and 13 rebounds for his 11th double-double this season.

BYU had nine turnovers by halftime and LMU turned them into 16 points and a 42-31 lead. Batemon and Scott combined for 30 points by halftime as the Lions buried half of their 36 shots.
