Weber State’s Josh Davis Named National Freshman of the Week

OGDEN, Utah-After running for a career-high 225 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-18 win over Southern Utah, Weber State star freshman tailback Josh Davis was named as the national freshman of the week by FCS STATS late Monday.

In the win at Eccles Coliseum over the Thunderbirds, Davis, a former Alta High star, ran for 225 yards and a pair of scores.

Davis’ 225 rushing yards are the most in a game for a Wildcat in the last six years and are tied for the 12th most in a game in program history.

Davis has 1,160 rushing yards thus far on the season, which is a freshman record at Weber State.

He currently ranks fifth nationally in rushing yards per game with 128.9 yards per contest.

Davis also has 1,547 all-purpose yards, which leads the Big Sky Conference and he is second nationally in all-purpose yards, averaging 171.9 such yards per game.

Davis has been named to the watch list for the Jerry Rice Award, which honors the nation’s top freshmen in FCS football.
