Weber State Men’s Basketball Hosts Portland State Thursday

OGDEN, Utah-Thursday, Weber State men’s basketball returns to “The Purple Palace” to host Portland State as they try to overcome last Saturday’s loss at Montana which put the Grizzlies in the driver’s seat in the Big Sky Conference.

Headed into this game against the Vikings at the Dee Events Center, the Wildcats are 13-7 (7-2 in Big Sky play) and 23-2 all-time against Portland State at home.

The Wildcats score a Big Sky Conference-best 82.2 points per game while giving up 74.2 points per contest.

Star junior guard Jerrick Harding scores 21.4 points per game for the Wildcats. Fellow junior guard Cody John adds 15.1 points per contest to pace the Wildcats.

Senior forward Brekkott Chapman (12.9 points, 9.2 rebounds per game) also excels for Weber State.

The Wildcats also lead the conference in scoring margin per game (+8), free throw percentage (74.3 percent), field goal percentage (48.4 percent shooting), field goal percentage defense (42.2 percent shooting), three-point field goal percentage defense (31.8 percent shooting), blocked shots (4.6 blocks per game), defensive rebounds (30.6 per game) and defensive rebound percentage (75.6 percent).

Portland State comes in to Ogden with a record of 8-11 (3-5 in Big Sky).

The Vikings score 78.4 points per game and surrender 75. 1 points per contest.

Portland State is led by sophomore guard Holland Woods (14.4 points per game) and junior guard Michael Nuga (11.7 points per game).

The Vikings lead the nation in offensive rebounds (324 on the season).

They also rank in the Top 10 nationally in steals (183), rebounding margin (+8.3 rebounds) and total rebounds (791).
