UVU Women’s Basketball Brings in B.J. Porter As New Assistant

OREM, Utah-Wednesday, Utah Valley University women’s basketball announced the hiring of B.J. Porter as a new assistant on head coach Cathy Nixon’s staff.

Porter, a native of Layton, Utah, returns to the Beehive State after stints as an assistant at Pepperdine while also serving as the men’s basketball coach at NAIA school Antelope Valley in 2016-17.

As a collegian, Porter played at both Portland and Weber State before concluding his career at Division II Azusa Pacific, earning both all-conference and all-region honors while starring for the Cougars.

He also played professionally for the Mineros de Parral of Parral, Mexico.

In 2014-15, Porter was the head girls basketball coach at Layton Christian Academy and led the Eagles to a region championship.

Porter replaces Adam Wardenburg on Nixon’s staff as he left to be the head women’s basketball coach at Division III Southern Virginia University in July.
