UVU Men’s Basketball Opens WAC Season At Grand Canyon Thursday

PHOENIX-Thursday, Utah Valley men’s basketball, currently sporting a 10-4 record, commences WAC play by traveling to Phoenix to battle the Grand Canyon Antelopes.

The Wolverines are winners of 10 of their last 11 games, including a 64-60 win at Fresno State last Saturday.

This was a historic win for Utah Valley as it was the first win over a Mountain West Conference squad in program history.

The Wolverines score 77.5 points per game and only surrender 71.9 points per contest.

Redshirt junior guard Jake Toolson leads the Wolverines with 15.9 points per game and he is closely followed by senior guard Conner Toolson. The Toolsons represent roughly 40 percent of the Wolverines’ offense per game.

The Wolverines also rank in the Top 50 nationally in total rebounds (25th, 556 net rebounds), defensive rebounds per game (36th, 28.7 per game), field goal percentage (46th, 48.4 percent shooting) and total assists (47th, 217 net assists).

The Antelopes, coached by former NBA All-Star Dan Majerle, come in with a record of 7-6.

Grand Canyon scores 74.5 points per game and surrenders 70 points per contest.

The Antelopes’ star is Italian national Alessandro Lever, a sophomore center who posts 14.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Grand Canyon leads the all-time series 8-4 and the Wolverines are 1-4 all-time at Phoenix in the series.
