Utah State Hosts New Mexico Saturday

LOGAN, Utah-The 6-1 Utah State Aggies, off to their best start since 1974, host New Mexico Saturday in hopes of remaining undefeated in Mountain West Conference play.

If the Aggies can get to 7-1, this represents their best start since 1965.

The Aggies have traditionally struggled against the Lobos, as New Mexico leads the all-time series 13-11 with the series dating back to 1951.

As the head coach at Utah State, Matt Wells is 3-2 all-time against the Lobos.

The Aggies’ six-game winning streak is the seventh-longest winning streak in the nation. Power 5 conference schools Clemson and Michigan have also won their last seven games.

While the Aggies scored at least 30 points in the first six games of this season, they have come in unique ways.

Utah State has scored seven non-offensive touchdowns this season. Only the Temple Owls of the American Athletic Conference have scored more such touchdowns in college football, with eight.

Against New Mexico, when the Aggies have prevailed, the games have not been close as seven of Utah State’s last nine wins in the series have been by double digits.

Conversely, five of the Lobos’ last seven win in the series have been by single digits.

The Lobos possess some impressive talent in NFL prospect, tailback Tyrone Owens, who has run for 507 yards and six touchdowns on the season.

While New Mexico doesn’t throw the ball often, receiver Elijah Lilly (16 rec, 331 yards, 5 TD’s) has been solid for the Lobos.
