University of Utah Skiers Earn Academic All-American Honors

AUSTIN, Texas-University of Utah skiers Martin Bergstrom and Julie Mohagen were named to the Academic All-American Division I at-large team Thursday as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

These at-large teams also consist of athletes from fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, water polo, beach volleyball, women’s bowling, field hockey, women’s rowing, men’s volleyball and wrestling teams.

Bergstrom, a senior out of Pitea, Sweden and the owner of a 3.94 GPA, is majoring in mathematics and earned second-team All-American honors. Bergstrom is the 2018 NCAA 10-km classic national champion and also earned All-American honors as an athlete in classic and freestyle this past season.

Bergstrom was also the 2018 RMISA Men’s Nordic Athlete of the year and RMISA MVP, leading all men’s Nordic skiers in the league with five wins and posted nine podium finishes. His career with the Utes ends with three NCAA titles, the most of any Nordic skier in program history and departs as a four-time All-American.

Mohagen, a junior out of Oslo, Norway, was named as a third-team All-American and boasts a 4.0 GPA in finance. The Norwegian national was the winner of the 2018 skiing Elite 90 award. This goes to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the national championships.

She posted five Top-10 finishes in 2018, including a season-best finish of sixth in the slalom at New Mexico. Mohagen won the 2016 NCAA slalom championship and is a two-time All-American and three-time national championship NCAA qualifier with the Utes.

In program history, Utah has had 12 skiers earn academic All-American honors.
