SUU Women’s Soccer Announces New Assistant Coach

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Friday, Southern Utah University announced a new assistant coach for its women’s soccer program, just weeks ahead of the regular season.

Head coach Fred Thompson confirmed Jonas Tanzer will assume this role.

Tanzer comes to Cedar City from Division III Pacific Lutheran of Tacoma, Wash. where he had served as the Lutes’ assistant coach since 2016.

During his time with the Lutes, Tanzer helped lead them to back-to-back NCAA Division III tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017.

In his tenure at PLU, Tanzer was responsible for goalkeeper training activities, using SportsCodePro and Gamebreaker to perform video analysis while also planning elite training sessions for players during his time as the associate head coach.

Tanzer served as technical director and girls director for the state of Washington’s Premier Football Club wherein he developed new player development plans for players ranging from 6 to 19 years old.

He was also the head coach for ECNL 00, ECNL 02 and Boys 99. Before he served as technical director in 2017, he was the goalkeeper director for WPFC in 2016.

A Swedish national, Tanzer spent time coaching in Sweden from 2009-2015 and served as the assistant coach for IFK Norrkoping Allsvenskan as well as for both the boys and girls’ Swedish national teams.

Tanzer also played for Pacific Lutheran as a collegian, becoming a three-time all-conference first team performer in the Northwest Conference.
