CEDAR CITY, Utah-Wednesday, Southern Utah University softball head coach Kortny Hall announced the hiring of Shannel Blackshear as a new assistant coach.

Blackshear comes to Cedar City from Case Western Reserve University of Cleveland where she served as an assistant for the NCAA Division III Spartans.

During her time there, the Spartans went 58-29 and in 2018, they finished second in the University Athletic Association, advancing to the Division III national title game for only the second time in program history.

While at CWRU, she served as the Spartans’ primary recruiter as well as the program’s academic coordinator and also assumed strength and conditioning and fundraising responsibilities.

Blackshear played at Wisconsin from 2010-2013 and as a third baseman for the Badgers, became the program’s all-time leader in RBI, home runs, slugging percentage, OPS and total bases.

Blackshear has a bachelor’s in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master’s degree in recreation and sports management from the University of Arkansas.
