CEDAR CITY, Utah-As competition ensues at the 120th Utah State Amateur at the Oakridge Golf Club of Farmington, Southern Utah University representatives have advanced into the Round of 32 of match play Wednesday.
Sophomore-to-be Austin Jaramillo of Roosevelt, Utah and junior-to-be Jake Vincent of Palm Desert, Calif. secured match-play wins Wednesday while Jaramillo was up seven shots with six to play en route to victory. Vincent prevailed in his match by a stroke.
Former Thunderbirds men’s golf competitor Fidel Concepcion earned a win, and is currently five shots up with four holes to play. Another former SUU men’s golfer, Denny Job, also advanced as he finished Wednesday competition four shots up with three holes to play.
Ali Hameed and former Thunderbirds men’s basketball player Ryan Brimley bowed out of the competition Wednesday after losing in their matchups.
The amateur competition ensues Thursday and will run through Saturday.
