SUU Men’s Basketball Faces Northern Colorado in Big Sky Quarterfinals

BOISE, Idaho-Thursday, Southern Utah men’s basketball (15-15, 9-11 in Big Sky Conference play) faces Northern Colorado (21-10, 15-5 in conference play) in the conference quarterfinals at CenturyLink Arena.

The #7 seed Thunderbirds shot 11-15 (73.3 percent) behind the arc Wednesday in a 94-80 win over Idaho State and kept head coach Todd Simon’s streak of never losing in the first round of the conference tournament intact.

Simon is 4-2 all-time in the Big Sky Conference tournament, headed into Thursday’s evening’s tilt against the #2 seed Bears.

The Thunderbirds currently score 75.4 points per game and surrender 75.9 points per contest.

Southern Utah’s statistical leaders are redshirt junior guard/forward Cameron Oluyitan (12.8 points per game), senior guard Brandon Better (12 points per game) and rising star, junior forward Andre Adams (10.2 points, 6.3 rebounds per game).

Adams posted 23 points and 8 rebounds against the Bengals Wednesday, shooting 9-16 from the field. His contributions were instrumental in the Thunderbirds shooting 53.7 percent for the game.

Southern Utah will face the Big Sky Conference player of the year in senior guard Jordan Davis, who averages a conference-best 23.8 points per game.

Freshman guard Bodie Hume (10.7 points) has also helped Davis assume the scoring role for the Bears.

Northern Colorado scores 77 points per game and surrenders 69.2 points per contest.

The winner of this game plays the winner of Eastern Washington-Montana State in the conference tournament semifinals.
