Stadium TV Names Sam Merrill A 3rd Team All-American

LOGAN, Utah-Per an announcement released late Tuesday, Utah State men’s basketball junior guard Sam Merrill has been named as a third-team All-American by Stadium TV college basketball insider Jeff Goodman.

Merrill is one of only 15 college basketball players in NCAA Division I men’s basketball to receive this honor.

Other members of the third team include some of college basketball’s brightest stars, such as Gonzaga junior forward Rui Hachimura, Kansas redshirt junior forward Dedric Lawson, Purdue junior guard Carsen Edwards and Virginia junior guard Kyle Guy.

This announcement follows Merrill being named as the Mountain West Conference player of the year by both conference coaches and media.

Merrill averaged 21 points per game during the regular season and 22 points during the conference season.

He is the first Aggie to average more than 20 points a game since Jaycee Carroll averaged 22.4 points per game during his senior campaign of 2007-08.

Merrill is the seventh Aggie in history to be named as his conference’s player of the year as well.

Merrill will lead his Aggies into action Thursday evening at 7:00 pm against the New Mexico Lobos in the Mountain West Conference tournament quarterfinals at Las Vegas.
