Shay McClure’s Contract Not Renewed

ST. GEORGE, Utah-News broke late Monday that Dixie State University will not retain the services of football coach Shay McClure after the Trailblazers’ season ended with a 52-10 rout of Adams State Saturday at Alamosa, Colo.

At the helm of the Trailblazers’ football program, McClure went 18-15 (.545) in three seasons at St. George.

This also included an 18-12 (.600) record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

In statements made Monday, athletic director Dr. Jason Boothe said he made the decision that renewing McClure’s contract was not in the program’s best interests.

Despite Boothe’s decision, McClure’s 7 wins in 2018 represent the most the Trailblazers have experienced in their history at the NCAA Division II level.

The report, published on dixiestateathletics.com, confirms that a national search for a new head coach will commence immediately.

As has been reported in The Spectrum’s October 30 edition, Dixie State is “closing in” on moving up to Division I and would therefore compete at the FCS level of Division I in football once the move occurs.
