OGDEN, Utah-Monday, a Weber State and Southern Utah freshman each won Big Sky freshman of the year honors for their accomplishments in outdoor track and field this season.

Additionally, she placed second in the women’s 110-meter hurdles in 13.84 seconds. Davies helped the Wildcats place third overall in the standings at the conference championships with 88.5 points.

Southern Utah redshirt freshman Aidan Reed of Helena, Mont., is the men’s freshman of the year in the conference by virtue of his winning the Big Sky title in the 10,000-meter run. Reed picked an opportune time to win his first individual competition as a collegian, earning gold at the conference meet in a time of 30:04.06.

Additionally, Reed placed sixth overall in the men’s 5,000-meter run at the league championships. Reed’s heroics helped the Thunderbirds place second overall in the standings with 122 points.

Reed and Davies, along with all other qualifying competitors, will now compete at the NCAA West track and field regionals May 22-24. Incidentally, this is being hosted by fellow Big Sky Conference member Sacramento State.
