Orem Owlz Reportedly To Move To Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo.-Per reports from the Pueblo Chieftain and KOAA-NBC Channel 5 of Colorado Springs/Pueblo, the Orem Owlz, a staple of the Utah Valley community since 2001, are expected to move to Pueblo, Colo.

The Chieftain reports that Owlz owner Jeff Katosky will fly into southern Colorado Wednesday and present his intentions to bring the franchise to Pueblo.

In April, Katofsky told the Chieftain that the lease in Orem will expire in five years and that he has been in talks with numerous cities and states about potentially moving his team.

These reports have been substantiated Tuesday by the Deseret News and KUTV 2 News evening sports anchor Dave Fox in Salt Lake City.

The Chieftain also states the Youth Entertainment and Sports project of Pueblo will bring in a new multi-uses stadium as well as six new youth ballfields and three hotels into downtown Pueblo.

Under the proposal that is to be discussed, this extensive operation would be run by Katofsky.

Should this move come through, the Owlz would not be the only Pioneer League team to move as the Helena Brewers are expected to move to Colorado Springs in 2019.

The Owlz’ history dates back to their days as the Provo Angels in 2001, who played at Larry H. Miller Field on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo.

In 2005, the team was moved to Orem and rebranded as the Owlz.

Attendance has been abysmal at Owlz home games as statistics show they only average 1,500 fans per game at home over the course of the past two seasons.

The Owlz, whose season started June 15, are currently 1-3 on the young season after their series against the Grand Junction Rockies at Grand Junction, Colo.
