NCAA Track and Field Championships: Day 1

EUGENE, Ore.-Wednesday, the NCAA outdoor track and field national championships commenced at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon with numerous Utah athletes getting a chance to compete for glory.

In the men’s 10,000-meter run, Utah State’s Dillon Maggard placed third overall in a time of 28:38.36 while Connor McMillan of BYU placed 12th overall.

Utah State’s Sindri Gudmundsson also medaled, placing third overall in the men’s javelin with a toss of 250-6 feet.

In the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase semifinals, BYU’s Clayson Shumway is the #2 overall seed headed into the finals with a time of 8:39.97. His teammate, Matt Owens, also qualified for the finals and will be the #10 overall seed in this event, posting a time of 8:42.35.

In the men’s decathlon, Kevin Nielsen of BYU is currently in 9th place, having amassed 4,103 points with this event to conlcude Thursday when the meet will continue.
