NCAA Cross Country Roundup: 9/1

OREM, Utah-Saturday, Utah Valley University hosted the UVU Cross Country Invitational, which saw the Wolverines’ men and women each win team titles.

In a meet consisting of UVU, Southern Utah, Westminster and Idaho State, the Wolverines’ men posted 24 points, with SUU in second at 39 points.

Jason Lynch, an unattached runner, posted a time of 14:53.40 to win the individual men’s 5-K title. Southern Utah’s Liam Kennell finished second overall. By virtue of Utah Valley sweeping the third through sixth individual finishes (Anthony Ocequeda, Geofrey Kemboi, Hawk Call and Britain Reynolds), the Wolverines snatched the team title.

SUU’s Koy Moore (7th place) and Michael Finch (10th place) also placed in the Top 10 overall.

For the women, the Wolverines’ 30 points earned them the team title, with SUU placing second with 41 points.

Alison Pray of SUU won the individual title in a time of 17:56.30. Rounding out the top 10 were Utah Valley’s Hannah Branch, SUU’s Morgan Porcaro, Maggie Zwahlen of UVU, Haley Tanne of SUU, UVU’s Megan Nielson and Mazzie Melaney and Idaho State’s Molly Olsen, Rachel McGovern and Ashley Sondag.

LOGAN, Utah-Saturday, Utah State and Utah’s womens’ cross country teams competed in a dual meet at the Sagebrush Invitational. The Aggies prevailed 20-41. Earning the individual win in the women’s 5-K was Utah’s Sarah Feeny in a time of 18:15.78. The Aggie women sealed the deal by sweeping the second through sixth places individually with Shannon Maloney, Megan Ryan, Micaela Rivera, Josie Givens and Katie Struthers earning these spots.

Rounding out the top 10 were Utah’s Sarah Newton in 7th and Utah State’s Bailee Parker, Camille Wirthlin and Grace Gibbons finishing 8th through 10th.
