Migueles, Foscalina Homer in Utah Baseball’s Loss to Washington State, 14-5

PULLMAN, Wash. – Erick Migueles and Dominic Foscalina each homered for the Utah baseball team as the Utes dropped the first of a three-game series to Washington State, 14-5 on Thursday evening.

Utah (14-39, 6-22 Pac-12) led 5-3 before Washington State scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and pulled ahead with seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., went 2-for-5 at the plate with the Utes with an RBI and a steal of home plate while Migueles was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

On the mound, Tanner Thomas earned the loss after surrendering seven runs with four strikeouts over six innings. Spencer Kevin Johnson and Spencer Johnson also made appearances on the mound for the Utes.

Washington State scored a run in the first inning and two in the third to take a 3-0 lead before Utah got on the board in the fourth inning with Migueles’ team-leading fifth home run of the year, a two-run shot. The Utes increased their lead in the top of the fifth with three runs for a 5-3 advantage. Foscalina led off the inning with a solo home run to right field. Matt Richardson followed with a double and an RBI single off the bat of Keirsey gave Utah another run. Keirsey moved to third on Oliver Dunn’s single and on a heads-up play on a pickoff attempt at first base Keirsey stole home base, his seventh stolen base of the season.

Washington State pulled back ahead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of two-run home runs. The Cougars also hit two home runs as part of a four-run seventh inning. A hit batter, single and two-RBI double led to two of WSU’s three runs in the eighth.
