Katie Ford of Dixie State To Compete At NCAA D-II Golf Tournament

DURANGO, Colo.-Despite Dixie State’s women’s golf team not qualifying for the NCAA Division II super-regionals, Katie Ford made the cut as an individual.

Ford is the only women’s Trail Blazers player to compete for a title and will do so May 7-9 at Durango, Colo. at the super regional hosted by Fort Lewis.

Ford, a junior, is, in essence, a Trail Blazer, as she is only the second player in the program’s 6-year history, to qualify for the NCAA super regionals, joining Haley Dunn in this elite category.

Individually, Ford won two tournaments this season, the Point Loma Reach Invitational (146, +2) and the Colorado State-Pueblo Pack Spring Invitational (142, -2).

Ford also placed in the top 20 in six of the nine overall events the Trail Blazers competed in this season and finished 11th overall at the Pac West Championship tournament.

Dixie State head coach Lindsey Stucki said she’s “really excited for Katie,” and anticipates seeing her “compete against some of the best players at the Division II level.”

Of the six individual players invited to compete, Ford is ranked fifth and is seeking to overtake Newman star Imkeleen Meyer.

The Dallas Baptist Patriots are the overall top seed at the Fort Lewis regional, which also features Dixie State’s Pac-West rival, Cal Baptist, as the #3 seed. This is the Lancers’ last chance to compete at the Division II level in this event as upon the end of this athletic season, they will make the move to Division I.
