Former SUU Golf Star Qualifies For PGA Championship

SEASIDE, Calif.-Per a release from suutbirds.com Thursday afternoon, a former Southern Utah University men’s golf competitor has qualified for the prestigious PGA Championship tournament this August.

The report confirms that Zach Johnson, who competed for the Thunderbirds from 2001-2005 finished in the top 20 at the PGA professional championship Wednesday at Seaside, Calif.

The top 20 at this event advance to the PGA Championship at the Bellerive Country Club of St. Louis August 9-12.

Overall, Johnson finished tied for 12th in the field, shooting two-over.

Other career milestones for Johnson include victories in the 2013 Utah Open and the 2018 Taylormade National Championship.

The only other golfer with SUU ties to compete in a major PGA event is John Evans who played in the Senior PGA championship in 1995.
