Former Gunnison Star Among Weber State Athletes to Qualify For NCAA Regionals

SACRAMENTO, Calif.-Five Weber State track and field athletes have qualified for the NCAA West Regionals May 24-26 at Sacramento, Calif., and among them is a former Gunnison High star.

Kate Sorensen, a freshman who was a star hurdler for the Bulldogs, will be entered in the 400-meter hurdles this weekend at Sacramento State. Sorensen has already set a new school record for the Wildcats in this event, posting a time of 58.92 seconds.

This is the third-best time in the Big Sky Conference this season and the 32nd best in the West among all Division I schools in the region.

At the Big Sky Championship meet May 8-11 at Moscow, Idaho, Sorensen’s time of 59.21 placed her second overall in conference annals.

Other Wildcats competing in this meet include women’s high jumper Abbi Brecht, a junior from Herriman, Utah, men’s 3000-meter steeplechase competitor Jordan Cross, a junior out of Ogden, Utah, senior men’s high jumper Anthony Gregory out of Roy, Utah and women’s 3000-meter steeplechase competitor junior Summer Harper out of Orem, Utah.

The top 12 finishers in each competition at this meet will advance to the NCAA Championships June 6-9 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
